DC Writers Mock Draft: Picks 16-20

After a football packed weekend our DC Writers mock continues in the build up to the NFL draft, Live at 12am Thursday on Sky Sports 1.

Picks 1-5

Picks 6-10

Picks 11-15

16th - St Louis Rams - Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas.
Picked by Simon Loves

St Louis desperately need turnovers to help out their hot and cold offense. With the departure of Danny Amendola, this is more important than ever.

St Louis lost both Quintin Mikell and Craig Dahl this off season, so safety is a position of great need for them. Vaccaro is the best safety in the draft, and is a day one starter.

The Rams would do well to pick up this Longhorns play maker.

17th - Pittsburgh Steelers - Bjoern Werner,DE, Florida State
Picked by Nathan Sharrocks

Werner is used to coming off the edge in a 4-3; he's undersized; he'll need a lot of work if he's to play off the line of scrimmage in a 3-4 as an OLB; however he's worth the wait.

The Steelers will look at his potential and take the risk. He made turning offensive tackles look easy and his explosiveness through the corners made him a player that quarterbacks had to look out for on every single play.

He is slightly undersized but he has the frame to bulk up. Meanwhile the Steelers haven't looked the same on defence the last couple of years. Werner could be the first piece in a long term development that goes back to the Steel Curtain days.

18th - Dallas Cowboys - Alec Ogletree, ILB, Georgia
Picked by Tommy Gibbs

With an offense loaded with talent the 'Boys need help on defence, especially with the departure of coordinator Rob Ryan.

Ogletree is a great fit for their defence, with the exceptional speed needed in a division that boasts RGIII and a new Chip Kelly offence that is sure to be run at breakneck pace. A great all-round prospect versatile enough to play inside or out (in their new 4-3), he should be a 3 down prospect who can help make for a solid defence should they have a little better luck with injuries this year.

19th - New York Giants - Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri
Picked by John Winter

This would be a great value pick for the Giants and Big Blue would be pretty happy if he would be available at 19, again relying on their strategy of drafting based on value rather reaching due to need.

Richardson would give the Giants a versatile player that played every position on the defensive line for Mizzou and would give them the ability to use more versatile fronts. He displays great athleticism and is most productive rushing the passer, which is something the Giants love and would help out the likes of Jason Pierre Paul and Justin Tuck.

Yes the Giants have needs at linebacker and somewhat at offensive line, in this draft Alabama tackle D.J. Fluker is still on the board, but the Richardson pick would represent the best value.

20th - Chicago Bears - Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame
Picked by Ross Watson

Choosing between the two top TEs is tough, and whilst Zach Ertz almost has Eifert beaten all ends in the statistical categories, Eifert has ball skills rarely possessed by WR's let alone TEs and his ability to go up and get the ball is rare which is why the Bears are happy he lasted so long because Jay Cutler needs help over the middle.

A true match up nightmare and really is too big for defensive backs and too fast for linebackers and can be lined up anywhere on the field. Some back concerns to keep an eye on but that really doesn't affect his value too much and the Bears greatly improve their offensive capability. (Te'o considered, but with Eifert still here it's a no brainer)
